Pratts was a department store located in Streatham High Road, London, becoming part of the John Lewis chain before it's closure in 1990. ==Early history== George Pratt arrived in Streatham from Silchester at the age of 13 to start an apprenticeship in drapery.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Humble beginnings - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 Just 11 years later George Pratt was the sole owner of the business, but Streatham was only a sleepy village with a population of 7000. The Railways arrived in 1856 and within 50 years the population had grown to 71,000.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Humble beginnings - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 With the growth of Streatham, George purchased two shops opposite his store which he called Eldon House.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Humble beginnings - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 This was the start of great expansion with his sons Henry and Charles joining the business and the store expanding into neighbouring shop units.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Humble beginnings - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 In 1912 the business was incorporated and the store expanded. Pratts Ltd had expanded to offer a greater range of products which included a funeral service.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Twentieh Century - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 However in 1920 the business was sold to Brixton department store Bon Marche. This was short lived as in 1926 Bon Marche was bought by the Selfridge Provincial Stores group. Under Selfridges control the store was further extended and advertising and special promotions were carried out on a regular basis.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Twentieh Century - johnlewismemorystore.org.uk )〕 This was a short lived change, however, as the Provincial Stores group collapsed and was purchased by the expanding John Lewis Partnership in 1940. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Pratts of Streatham」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
